Yendi:The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has successfully replaced a faulty 200 kVA transformer in Saasigli, part of the Yendi Municipality, restoring electricity to the community and surrounding areas.
According to Ghana News Agency, the transformer malfunctioned in mid-September, causing disruptions in electricity supply to Saasigli and nearby communities including Nayili Fong and Meindogu. The installation of the new transformer by NEDCo's technical team has resolved these issues.
Mr. Maxwell Kotoka, NEDCo's Corporate Communications Manager, addressed journalists at Saasigli, emphasizing the company's commitment to collaborating with communities to enhance electricity supply and address service-related challenges. He noted that the replacement was delayed due to poor road conditions caused by heavy rains, which made access to the site difficult.
Residents contributed by improving road access with stones and boulders, facilitating the transport of the transformer. Mr. Kotoka praised the cooperation and support from traditional authorities and community leaders in overcoming the challenges faced during the replacement process.
He also advised individuals and organizations considering donating transformers to consult NEDCo beforehand. This ensures that any new equipment meets the necessary technical and safety standards through proper assessment and installation oversight.
Mr. Abdul-Fatawu Alhassan, Member of Parliament for Yendi, stated that the new transformer has ended a week-long power disruption in the area. He mentioned ongoing efforts to expand electricity supply to additional communities such as Kpanji, Kulkpaga, Banchia Number One, and Banchia Number Two by the end of October. He encouraged residents to support development initiatives and protect public infrastructure to maintain improvements in their living conditions.
