Hopeson Adorye Admits to Creating False Flyer Against Charlotte Osei

Accra:Hopeson Adorye, a former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has admitted to participating in a propaganda campaign that falsely portrayed Charlotte Kesson-Smith Osei, the former Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, as a parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). This was part of an effort to oppose her appointment by then-President John Dramani Mahama.

According to Ghana Web, Adorye revealed that a flyer was manufactured to depict Osei as an NDC member running for parliament in Komenda or Mfantsiman, although this was untrue. This flyer was part of a broader campaign by some NPP members to discredit Osei's appointment.

Adorye explained his involvement in the campaign, although he was not the designer of the flyer. He recounted that the initiative was organized within the NPP's national communications team, which included a subgroup called the 'Young Patriots' formed by the party's then Communications Director, Nana Akomea.

He accused the NPP of hypocrisy, pointing out that the party criticized President Mahama's appointment of Emelia Afi Agbenyo as Deputy EC Chairperson but later appointed its own members to similar positions after Osei's removal. Charlotte Osei was appointed by President Mahama in 2015 and was removed from the position in June 2018 following an inquiry.
