According to Ghana Web, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah was suspended by President John Dramani Mahama from his position as Director-General of the National Sports Authority due to allegations of involvement in visa racketeering.

The suspension followed a report submitted by the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, to President Mahama. The report highlighted a scandal concerning visa arrangements for the 2026 World Cup and recommended Ankrah's suspension to facilitate a clear investigation.

Sports journalist Muftawu Nabila confirmed having seen the suspension letter, which stated that Ankrah needed to step aside during the investigation. Nabila elaborated on PM Express, a JoyNews program, that the suspension was deemed necessary to ensure transparency.

Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament has urged investigations into Minister Kofi Adams and Ghana Tourism Authority CEO Maame Efua over alleged irregularities related to the NSA and the GTA Fest. These allegations concern visa facilitation processes, fees charged, and the verification of lists sent to foreign embassies.
