Accra:Ghanaian TikToker Asantewaa has shared the reasons behind her decision to end her marriage with ex-husband Jeffrey Obiri Boahen. Despite stating that there were no personal conflicts between them, Asantewaa cited concerns over their matching sickle cell carrier statuses as the primary reason for the separation.
According to Ghana Web, Asantewaa expressed that continuing the marriage posed a risk of having children with sickle cell disease, which was a significant concern for her. She mentioned that although her ex-husband wanted to maintain the marriage, she could not proceed due to her family's history with the disease.
During the separation, Jeffrey did not involve his family in the matters between them, as he hoped to reconcile. Asantewaa noted that he had kept the situation private, telling his family that everything was fine despite her decision to leave.
The TikToker emphasized the impact of losing three siblings to sickle cell disease, which solidified her decision to avoid the risk of having children who could inherit the condition. This personal history made the prospect of having children with sickle cell disease unacceptable to her.
Afterward, Asantewaa began a relationship with rapper AMG Armani, ensuring early on that his genotype was AA, eliminating the risk of sickle cell disease for their potential children. This knowledge provided her peace of mind regarding their future together. Despite the separation, she continues to respect her ex-husband but stands firm on her decision due to the genetic risks involved.
