Bekwai:The Member of Parliament for Bekwai, Ralph Poku-Adusei, recently visited the Bekwai Municipal Hospital, where he engaged with management and staff to discuss the hospital's achievements, ongoing projects, and operational challenges.
According to Ghana Web, a significant focus of the visit was the inspection of the KNUST Medical School project, currently under development on the hospital's premises. This project, supported by VALCO, aims to transform the hospital into a teaching and training hub for medical professionals, enhancing healthcare services for Bekwai residents.
Poku-Adusei praised the dedication of the hospital's staff, highlighting their role in advancing the facility from a primary healthcare provider to a secondary-level hospital accredited by the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA). He emphasized his commitment to supporting the welfare of his constituents, noting the importance of good health for the community.
Hospital management, led by Medical Superintendent Dr. Serebour, outlined several challenges following the hospital's elevation in status. These include limited emergency unit capacity, lack of a dedicated isolation unit, inadequate accommodation for essential health personnel, the absence of a CT scan facility, and delays in laboratory equipment availability. The hospital has land for expansion and is exploring public-private partnerships to address some of these issues.
In addition to financial support, Poku-Adusei promised to use his FM platform to educate the public on hospital procedures, patient rights, and health protocols, aiming to improve public awareness and cooperation.
The visit concluded with an agreement between the MP and hospital management to maintain ongoing collaboration to transform the Bekwai Municipal Hospital into a leading healthcare center in the Ashanti Region.
