Accra:The Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has condemned comments made about former Black Stars captain André 'Dede' Ayew, describing them as disrespectful and unacceptable.
According to Ghana Web, the General Manager of Aduana FC, Takyi Arhin, reportedly stated that Ayew would not be able to become President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) while Kurt Okraku remains in office. Arhin also advised Ayew to return to his hometown in the Northern Region and invest in goat farming rather than pursue a position in the GFA.
In a statement released on October 12, 2026, the PFAG emphasized that a person's background should not be used to ridicule or demean them. The association warned that such comments could foster division within the football community.
The PFAG expressed concern over the reference to Ayew's northern roots and the suggestion that he should focus on goat farming. They stated that football in Ghana is for all Ghanaians, regardless of their origin, and stressed the importance of unity within the sport.
The PFAG also called for an end to such behavior and reiterated its full support for Ayew, urging that he should be free to make his own decisions without facing personal attacks. They highlighted that football development should focus on ideas and competence, rather than personal insults or stereotypes.
The association pledged to continue advocating for the dignity, respect, and legitimate voice of players, emphasizing that Ayew should be evaluated based on his ideas and contributions to Ghana football.
