Accra:The Positive Transparency and Accountability Movement-Africa (PTAAM-Africa) has urged the government to initiate a comprehensive investigation into alleged visa fraud associated with travel plans for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to Ghana Web, PTAAM-Africa expressed concerns that the allegations, involving the exploitation of World Cup travel arrangements to defraud Ghanaians, could severely impact the integrity of Ghana's immigration system and its international standing.
In a statement dated October 12, 2026, signed by President Ebenezer K. Havor, PTAAM-Africa called on the Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana Immigration Service, and National Security to work together on this investigation. The group emphasized that if these fraudulent activities are confirmed, they could tarnish Ghana's international image, weaken trust in its immigration systems, and potentially expose victims to human trafficking.
The movement is demanding a transparent investigation to uncover the truth and ensure that those responsible face legal consequences. Additionally, PTAAM-Africa has highlighted the need to protect alleged victims and urged the media and public to avoid unverified accusations, insisting that all claims must be backed by credible evidence and that those implicated receive a fair hearing.
This call comes amidst increasing controversy over visa arrangements involving the National Sports Authority, Ghana Tourism Authority, Ministry of Sports and Recreation, and the private entity TRIBE Culture Fest. The situation escalated when the Minority in Parliament questioned the lists of individuals allegedly submitted to foreign embassies for travel related to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Ranking Member on Parliament's Youth and Sports Committee, claimed that only 15 out of 102 individuals presented to the Canadian Embassy as National Sports Authority personnel or affiliates could be verified against the authority's records. This controversy has led to the suspension of National Sports Authority Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah pending further investigations.
In response, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation has denied any wrongdoing, stating that the ongoing investigation will clarify the situation and ensure accountability for any parties found guilty.
