Ouagadougou:Sheikh Tophic Sienu, media officer of the Black Starlets, has clarified the reasons behind Ghana's U17 team's decision to travel by road to Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, for the WAFU B U17 tournament.
According to Ghana Web, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) initially planned for the team to fly to the tournament. However, after submitting the trip's budget to the government, no response was received, prompting a change in travel plans.
As a result, the technical team decided to first relocate the players to Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region. From there, they continued their journey to Ouagadougou by road. This decision allowed the team to utilize their technical base in Bolgatanga and avoid an immediate long bus ride from Accra to Ouagadougou.
The camping in Bolgatanga served a dual purpose, as it also helped the players acclimatize to the weather conditions similar to those in Burkina Faso. Sienu noted that this preparation was essential due to reports of excessive heat in Burkina Faso at the time.
