Miami:Lionel Messi made a significant impact by scoring twice in Inter Miami's emphatic victory against DC United. This was his first game since retiring from international football.
According to Ghana Web, Messi had recently concluded his international career with Argentina, where he scored in his final match four days earlier. The 39-year-old contributed to Miami's win, marking only their second victory in 11 Major League Soccer (MLS) matches.
In the match, Luis Suarez, a former Uruguay striker, scored twice in the first half. He opened the scoring in the third minute with a left-footed shot, followed by another goal six minutes before halftime, bringing his total to 16 league goals this season. Suarez also assisted Messi's first goal shortly after the break. Messi then scored again in the 60th minute to complete the impressive win.
Messi, an eight-time Ballon d'Or winner, retired from international duty after a record-breaking career, where he became Argentina's all-time leading scorer with 126 goals in 208 appearances. He now focuses on the MLS, aiming to help Miami secure back-to-back titles, a feat last achieved by Los Angeles Galaxy in 2011-12.
Currently, Messi leads the MLS scoring charts with 23 goals, four ahead of FC Dallas's Petar Musa. Inter Miami stands second in the Eastern Conference, trailing 14 points behind leaders Nashville FC.
