Accra:According to Ghana Web, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson emphasized that Ghana's New Economy aims to address unemployment and remove barriers hindering young people, farmers, and small businesses from achieving sustainable livelihoods.
He expressed concern over the current situation where education does not lead to employment, talents go unsupported, and productive efforts fail to generate opportunities. Dr. Forson highlighted the personal nature of unemployment, pointing out the struggles of graduates unable to find work and young individuals with talent but lacking capital.
Dr. Forson stressed the importance of jobs and economic opportunity in the New Economy, focusing on the challenges faced by farmers without reliable markets and small business owners hindered by high credit costs. He noted the significant burden on families who sacrifice to educate their children, only to see them unemployed.
He rejected the notion that such challenges should be accepted as a norm, stating that the New Economy insists Ghana must not accept this situation. Dr. Forson delivered these remarks during a session with students and faculty at the University for Development Studies' Nyankpala Campus.
