Counter-Terrorism Chief Cautions Ghana Against Complacency in Security

Accra:The Director of the National Counter-Terrorism Fusion Centre (NCTFC), Major General Tim Ba-Taa-Banah, has issued a warning that Ghana must remain vigilant against violent extremism and terrorism despite its current stability.

According to Ghana Web, Major General Ba-Taa-Banah discussed the nation's security posture amidst rising instability in the West African region. He emphasized that maintaining security requires more than just physical border protection, advocating for continuous intelligence gathering, public vigilance, and effective collaboration among security agencies.

The counter-terrorism chief assured the public of the country's readiness but cautioned against complacency, highlighting the importance of proactive measures to intercept potential threats. He noted that while Ghana is secure, it is not isolated from regional risks.

Major General Ba-Taa-Banah stressed the necessity of constant vigilance and the role of both citizens and security forces in maintaining peace. He warned that complacency could undermine the country's relative stability compared to its Sahelian neighbors.

He urged local communities to actively cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities, underscoring that public cooperation is crucial for sustaining national security. Ghana remains one of the few coastal West African nations that has avoided major jihadist attacks, even as militant activities increase in neighboring countries.
