Adentan:The Adentan Municipal Assembly (AdMA) has conducted a three-day workshop aimed at enhancing the prosecutorial skills of officers in its Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit. This initiative is designed to bolster their ability to enforce public health regulations and sanitation bye-laws effectively.
According to Ghana Web, the workshop was organized by AdMA's Human Resource Department and provided participants with essential knowledge and practical skills. The training covered the preparation of prosecution cases, managing case dockets, and presenting evidence in court, all within the officers' legal authority.
The sessions, led by a legal consultant, delved into criminal procedures in District Courts, case docket analysis, witness preparation, court exhibit handling, and the application of the law of evidence. Participants learned about initiating criminal proceedings, preparing charge sheets, and obtaining summonses and warrants. Additionally, the training explored the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act, 1960 (Act 30), and Article 19 of the 1992 Constitution, focusing on criminal proceedings and fair-trial requirements.
The first day of the workshop emphasized the legal and procedural foundations of prosecution. Through lectures, discussions, and experience-sharing, participants examined common defects in criminal charges and the stages of a court trial.
On the second day, practical exercises allowed officers to apply the concepts discussed, analyzing case dockets, drafting charge sheets, and conducting mock witness examinations. These exercises aimed to enhance their understanding of prosecution procedures and build confidence in court presentations.
The final day concentrated on professional report writing and records management, teaching participants to prepare clear, factual, and legally sound reports. The sessions stressed the importance of accurate documentation and evidence management to support prosecution cases.
The management of AdMA praised the Human Resource Department, the facilitator, and the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit for their involvement in this capacity-building effort. The training is anticipated to improve the officers' enforcement of sanitation bye-laws and public health protection across the municipality.
