Barker-Vormawor Predicts NDC May Lose Parliamentary Majority in 2028

Sanaa:A private legal practitioner, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has expressed concern over the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary majority, describing its influence as 'very underwhelming'. He believes that the two-thirds majority held by the NDC has not resulted in significant reforms or changes in the legislative oversight of the executive.

According to Ghana Web, Barker-Vormawor criticized the NDC for not introducing major programmatic reforms to move governance strategically. He highlighted the lack of change in parliamentary oversight over the executive and the failure to address pressing social challenges facing Ghanaians.

Barker-Vormawor further noted that the NDC's return to power has not been accompanied by a clear program reflecting the traditional ideals of the political left. He suggested that the party lacks a coherent plan for governance and warned that this could harm their prospects in the 2028 parliamentary elections.

He also pointed out that the departure of experienced lawmakers who previously played crucial roles in Parliament has contributed to what he termed an 'uninspiring' Parliament. Barker-Vormawor used an analogy to illustrate that significant changes cannot be expected if Parliament continues to operate within the same old patterns.

His comments were made in response to a poll by Mussa Dankwah, which indicated that nearly 60% of NDC delegates rated the performance of the Madina MP as average or very poor. Barker-Vormawor clarified that his remarks were not aimed at the Madina MP specifically but at the NDC's parliamentary majority as a whole.
