Adawso:Anxiety has risen among passengers and vendors at the Adawso landing site in the Kwahu Afram Plains South District after a cargo truck accident at the water crossing.
According to Ghana Web, the truck lost stability while attempting to board the pontoon connecting Adawso to Ekye Amanfrom and slid off the slipway into the Afram River. The driver and assistant escaped unharmed before the vehicle submerged.
The accident has caused significant delays along this key transport route, leaving numerous cargo vehicles, passenger buses, and traders stranded. Local canoe operators have been assisting with rescue and recovery efforts.
Motorists and business owners have expressed frustration over ongoing infrastructure neglect at the ferry terminal. Transporters note that the only vessel servicing the route has been operating with just one functional engine for years, leading to dangerous boarding conditions and frequent delays.
These issues result in prolonged waits at the riverbanks for commercial transporters and traders, who face financial losses and risks due to aging equipment.
Officials from the Volta Lake Transport Company and the Kwahu Afram Plains South District Assembly have not yet commented on the incident. Meanwhile, salvage operations are underway to recover the submerged vehicle and clear the channel for transit.
