Ouagadougou:Ghana's U17 national team, the Black Starlets, have arrived in Ouagadougou after a grueling road journey that lasted over 20 hours. They are set to compete in the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship.

According to Ghana Web, the tournament will commence on Saturday, October 10, 2026, with Ghana aiming to qualify for the 2027 U17 Africa Cup of Nations. The team initially traveled from Accra to Bolgatanga, spending four days at the Winkogo Technical Centre to continue their preparations before resuming their journey to Burkina Faso by bus on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

Prior to this, the Black Starlets held a training camp in Morocco, where they played two friendly matches against the host team. Ghana won the first game 2-0, but Morocco secured a 2-1 victory in the second match with a last-minute goal.

In the championship, Ghana has been placed in Group B alongside Burkina Faso, Togo, and Benin. The top two teams from the group will secure a spot in the 2027 U17 Africa Cup of Nations. Concerns have been raised over the welfare of the young players due to the extensive travel and security issues in parts of the Sahel region.
