Manchester:The United Arab Emirates has warned the UK government that it may withdraw billions of pounds in investments if Manchester City faces harsh penalties following its 115 charges verdict.
According to Ghana Web, The charges concern alleged breaches of financial rules, with potential consequences such as points deductions, expulsion from the Premier League, the stripping of titles, or even demotion to a lower division. The UK Prime Minister's initial remarks about the possibility of the UAE owners selling the club led to backlash, prompting a clarification from Downing Street.
The UAE's threat includes pulling out private investments intended for a hi-tech hub between Oxford and Cambridge, a project envisioned as the UK's version of Silicon Valley. This development follows a meeting between Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Manchester City's chairman, and Jonathan Reynolds, the UK's Business Secretary, which took place before the Premier League's verdict was announced. Reports indicate that the charges were not discussed during this meeting.
Manchester City has officially appealed the verdict, but the appeal process is pending as the punishment has yet to be determined. There is growing concern that political interference could affect the severity of the club's punishment, with calls for strict measures to serve as a deterrent.
