Calls Grow for Dede Ayew to Run for GFA Presidency

Accra:Black Stars legend André Dede Ayew is being urged by football journalists, former players, and notable figures to declare his candidacy for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency.

According to Ghana Web, Ayew has recently been active in the Ghanaian football community, attending sporting events, making donations, and offering guidance to teams and players. This involvement has sparked speculation that he may be considering a run for the GFA presidency, especially as the current administration, led by Kurt Okraku, faces public criticism due to declining performances of national teams and local leagues.

Prominent voices, including sports journalist Countryman Songo, believe Ayew has the leadership qualities needed to revive Ghanaian football. Songo called on Ayew to prioritize this potential role over his playing career, emphasizing the urgent need for his leadership.

Another sports journalist, Coach Christopher Nimley, urged Ayew to openly declare his intentions, criticizing the current state of football administration in Ghana. He expressed confidence in Ayew's ability to take on the challenge.

Dan Kwaku Yeboah of Peace FM highlighted Ayew's experience as a player and administrator, comparing him to successful former footballers who have become FA presidents in other countries. Yeboah noted that although Ayew is still playing, he has the qualifications to lead the GFA.

Dominic Adiyiah, a former player, expressed his support for Ayew's potential bid, commending his engagement with local football, including his visit to the women's camp, which he contrasted with the current administration.

Former Nigerian footballer Mikel Obi praised Ayew as a top player and influential figure capable of transforming Ghanaian football, acknowledging his potential impact on both national and African levels.
