Accra:Carlos Queiroz parted ways with the Black Stars on October 1, 2026, following mutual agreement with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to end his brief tenure as head coach.
According to Ghana Web, Queiroz was frustrated by the lack of dedicated football infrastructure in Ghana. GFA Communications Director Henry Asante-Twum revealed that the Portuguese coach was particularly disappointed that the Black Stars had to train and play their matches at the same stadium.
Queiroz's departure followed Ghana's defeats in the initial two matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The team suffered a 2-0 loss to Côte d'Ivoire and a 4-2 defeat against The Gambia after squandering a two-goal lead.
Asante-Twum highlighted that the absence of a permanent training base was one of the primary issues for the 73-year-old coach. Queiroz expressed surprise and concern over the national team's lack of a dedicated camp for training.
Additionally, Queiroz was troubled by the fact that the Black Stars used the same venue for both training sessions and competitive matches, which he believed hindered the team's performance and affected the quality of the pitch.
