Accra:Ivorian coach Emerse Faé and Senegalese manager Pape Thiaw have been identified as potential candidates for the vacant Black Stars coaching position. This follows the resignation of Carlos Queiroz after consecutive defeats in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
According to Ghana Web, the search for a new head coach is being conducted by a committee formed by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation in collaboration with the Ghana Football Association. This five-member committee is tasked with recommending a new coach by October 9, 2026.
Emerse Faé, who previously led Côte d'Ivoire to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, is one of the candidates under consideration. His coaching career began at Nice, where he progressed from coaching youth teams to managing the Ivory Coast U-23 team and serving as an assistant to the senior team. Faé achieved significant success with Côte d'Ivoire, including leading them to the 2026 FIFA World Cup's knockout stage.
Pape Thiaw, the other candidate, has experience managing Senegal's national team, having led them to victory in the 2022 African Nations Championship. As Senegal's head coach, Thiaw faced disciplinary issues during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, resulting in a ban and fine. Despite these challenges, he guided Senegal to the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup before being replaced by Patrick Vieira in August 2026.
Both Faé and Thiaw bring valuable experience and credentials to the table as Ghana seeks a coach capable of leading the Black Stars to success in future tournaments.
