Luka Modric ‘Ashamed’ After Croatia’s Heavy Defeat to England

Rijeka:Croatia captain Luka Modric expressed his deep disappointment following his team's 7-0 defeat to England in the Nations League on Saturday.

According to Ghana Web, Modric, who is 41 and recently extended his international career under the management of Slaven Bilic, described the match as a "catastrophic night." This was the first time in his 20-year international career that he felt such shame over a performance.

During the match, Modric, who played his 205th game for Croatia, was substituted in the 57th minute when Croatia was already trailing 5-0. England's Harry Kane scored twice, with Jude Bellingham, Anthony Gordon, Bukayo Saka, and Morgan Rogers also contributing to the scoreline.

Croatia had started Bilic's second managerial tenure with a 2-1 victory over the Czech Republic, followed by a 4-1 loss to Spain. Before the game against England, Croatia was level on points with them in Group A3, with hopes of advancing to the quarter-finals.

Modric emphasized the need for the team to regroup before their upcoming match against Spain in Split and subsequent games against England and the Czech Republic. He called for the team to demonstrate defiance, pride, and togetherness in future matches.
