Accra:Former Manchester United star Dwight Yorke has shown interest in taking on the role of head coach for Ghana's national football team, the Black Stars.
According to Ghana Web, the 54-year-old Trinidad and Tobago football icon, who has had a distinguished playing career with achievements such as winning the UEFA Champions League, three Premier League titles, and the FA Cup, is eager to bring a fresh and dynamic approach to the team. Yorke has stated his intent to implement a proactive style of play, which he has honed through years of study.
Yorke is well-qualified for the role, holding a UEFA Pro Licence, the highest coaching certification in Europe, which he obtained while gaining experience with Manchester United's youth teams. His coaching credentials also include UEFA A and B licences, providing a solid foundation for his managerial career.
His coaching career began in earnest in July 2022 when he was appointed head coach of the Australian A-League team Macarthur FC. Yorke quickly made his mark by leading the team to their first Australia Cup victory in his debut season. He later served as the head coach of Trinidad and Tobago from November 2024 until March 2026, though his tenure ended following the team's unsuccessful World Cup qualification campaign.
In addition to his head coaching roles, Yorke has also served as an assistant manager for both Sunderland and Trinidad and Tobago, gaining valuable experience in diverse football environments.
