CSIR-SARI Hosts Farmers to Showcase Climate-Smart Technologies

Nyankpala:About 130 farmers from Nyankpala, Kpendua, and Gumacheguyili communities were introduced to practical technologies and production methods aimed at tackling climate variability and improving soil fertility.

According to Ghana News Agency, the farmers participated in a knowledge-sharing event at the CSIR-SARI Agricultural Technology Park in Nyankpala. The initiative seeks to bridge the gap between research and farming communities through the demonstration of various agricultural innovations.

The technologies on display included improved crop production techniques, integrated soil fertility management, seed yam multiplication strategies, black soldier fly rearing, appropriate agronomic practices, and the use of biological inputs. The training received support from the West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development.

Dr. Charles Nelimor, Manager of the CSIR-SARI Agricultural Technology Park, guided the farmers through the various technologies, advocating for integrated production practices to enhance farming systems' performance and resilience. Dr. Nelimor emphasized that the Park's objective is to allow farmers to experience and test these technologies under real farming conditions before adoption.

He stated that this approach helps align research with farmers' real-world challenges, supporting the expansion of practical solutions. Dr. Nelimor also revealed plans to establish Mini Technology Parks at CSIR-SARI outstations in Damongo, Wa, and Manga, pending funding availability.

Farmer Alidu Adamu from Gumacheguyili expressed that the interaction with researchers provided him with a better understanding of the technologies and their application to his farm. He noted that seeing the technologies firsthand and engaging with researchers has been instrumental in assessing their suitability for his farming conditions.
