Tumu Residents Given Two-Week Ultimatum for Road Construction Relocation

Tumu:The landlord and sectional heads of Tumu in the Sissala East Municipality have issued a directive for owners of structures along certain roads in Tumu to relocate within two weeks to facilitate the construction of new roads.

According to Ghana News Agency, the affected buildings and stores are located along the Tumu roundabout towards the Loe Road, where construction is expected to begin soon. This initiative aims to enhance cross-border transportation between Ghana and Burkina Faso.

Baba Tommy Kanton, the landlord, announced the ultimatum in Tumu during a meeting with the affected individuals. He praised President John Mahama and the Member of Parliament for Sissala East, Isaah Mohammed Bataglia, for incorporating the Tumu-Burkina Faso road into the government's infrastructure program. He also commended Mawums Construction Limited for its work and urged the government to award them further town road projects, citing their readiness and competence.

Kanton emphasized that his actions were driven by development goals, not political motives, and cautioned against political interference in the contractor's work. He acknowledged that some residents might request more time but urged them not to, as he would not intervene in delaying the development process.

Isaah Mohammed Bataglia, the MP for Sissala East, assured those affected that the road project would proceed according to the landlord's directive. He noted the challenges of the relocation but stressed the importance of the municipality's broader development needs. He committed to working with the contractor to reduce the impact on residents.

Alhaji YY, an affected resident, requested an additional three days for residents unable to vacate within the two-week period. Despite the inconvenience of losing parts of their properties, he expressed support for the landlord's vision for development. Alhaji YY recounted that his house, over 70 years old, is among those affected, and he acknowledged the necessity of giving up part of it for the road construction.
