Accra: Ghana's diverse dance culture takes centre stage as the 12th edition of the Ghana Dance Festival comes alive in Accra from Tuesday, 15 September to Monday, 21 September 2026. Organised by Dancetera, the week-long festival will bring together dancers, instructors, choreographers, DJs, dance groups, creative professionals, and audiences for seven days of performances, competitions, workshops, seminars, social dancing, aerobics, and industry engagement.
According to Ghana Web, this year's festival embraces the diversity of Ghana's dance community, with activities representing AfroLatin, Street Dance, Traditional and Folk Dance, Praise Dance, Contemporary Dance, DanceSport, Kiddies Dance, and Dance Aerobics.
The festival begins on Tuesday, 15 September, with a social dance experience focusing on Dance of Ghanaian Origin, including Highlife, Traditional, Azonto, and Jama, hosted by KwanPa at Zen Gardens in Labone. On Wednesday, 16 September, the AfroLatin community welcomes international guests with two parties and lessons at Coconut Grove Regency Hotel, followed by an After Party at Luna, Marina Mall.
The celebration continues with the Salsa Rave at African Regent Hotel on Thursday and the Kizomba Rave at Accra City Hotel on Friday. Both events will combine interactive workshops with vibrant social dance experiences, designed to give both experienced dancers and beginners an opportunity to learn, connect, and enjoy the social side of dance.
The main highlight of the festival will be the Grand Festival Climax on Saturday, 19 September, at Alliance Fran§aise, Airport-Accra. Beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continuing till late, the all-day experience will assemble the different domains of dance at one venue. Audiences can expect exciting dance battles, interactive workshops, insightful seminars, exhibitions, spectacular performances, and nonstop social dancing.
The climax will showcase the range and richness of dance-from the energy of Street Dance and the elegance of AfroLatin movement to the cultural depth of Traditional Dance, the expression of Contemporary Dance, and the competitive discipline of DanceSport. It will also provide a platform for emerging and established dancers to demonstrate their talent, build new audiences, and connect with potential collaborators.
Beyond entertainment, the Ghana Dance Festival is designed as a development platform for Ghana's dance industry. The festival creates opportunities for dancers and dance organisations to network, share knowledge, develop their craft, and explore the business possibilities within dance. It also encourages conversations about professional standards, training, representation, employment, and the contribution of dance to Ghana's creative economy.
According to Robert Klah, CEO of Dancetera, a major focus of this year's AfroLatin programme will be the commencement of a process towards establishing an industry association. The festival will provide a platform for stakeholder engagement and the beginning of a membership drive involving different dance domains. The process is expected to continue after the festival, leading towards the formal launch of the association and the inauguration of its executives at the Ghana Dance Industry Awards in the first quarter of 2027. This initiative is intended to promote greater coordination, professional development, advocacy, and collaboration within the sector.
The Ghana Dance Festival is not reserved for professional dancers. It is an open celebration for families, children, dance enthusiasts, corporate groups, fitness communities, and members of the public who simply enjoy music and movement. Following Saturday's climax, the AfroLatin experience continues with a beachfront dance session on Sunday. The festival will conclude on Monday, 21 September, with Corporate Aerobics and Games, to be held in partnership with Aviation Social Centre.
