Accra: I±aki Williams' retirement from international football leaves the Black Stars with another attacking position to fill, but Ghana still has several options capable of easing the burden. With the Athletic Club forward no longer available for selection, the focus now turns to the players who could step up and fill the void he leaves in Carlos Queiroz's squad. From established Black Stars players to emerging forwards performing well abroad, there are several names Ghana could consider.
According to Ghana Web, Ransford-Yeboah K¶nigsd¶rffer is a strong candidate, having represented Ghana at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. The 24-year-old spent four seasons with Hamburger SV before joining Mainz in 2026. He scored 14 goals in his final Bundesliga 2 campaign with Hamburg, showcasing his pace and versatility to operate across the frontline.
Felix Afena-Gyan is another promising option. The former Roma forward has made eight appearances for Ghana and scored once. After a loan spell at Amedspor, he secured a permanent move to Turkish side Igdir FK in July 2026, which could bolster his experience and readiness to contribute to the national team.
Eddie Nketiah, currently with Crystal Palace, is reportedly considering switching his international allegiance from England to Ghana. With only one senior England appearance, he remains eligible to make the switch under FIFA rules, potentially bringing fresh talent to the squad.
Joseph Paintsil, formerly of Genk, offers another alternative, albeit not as a conventional striker. His ability to play from the wing could help Ghana replicate some of the qualities Williams provided from wide areas. Paintsil continues to contribute goals and assists as a winger for LA Galaxy in MLS.
Lastly, Prince Owusu is also a viable candidate. The CF Montr©al striker has been in impressive scoring form in MLS and established himself as a natural No 9. Owusu switched his international allegiance from Germany to Ghana and received his first Black Stars call-up in November 2025. His goalscoring form, physical presence, and leadership capabilities make him a strong contender to shoulder greater responsibility in Ghana's attack.
