‘My Offer to Support Him Still Stands’ – Ama K Abebrese on Strika’s Imprisonment

Accra: Renowned Ghanaian actress and filmmaker, Ama K Abebrese, has reacted to news that Hollywood actor Emmanuel Nii Adom Quaye, popularly known as Strika, has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

According to Ghana Web, in a video shared on X and sighted on September 16, 2026, Ama K Abebrese, who had earlier promised to support Strika before his imprisonment, noted that she is still open to assisting him. The filmmaker mentioned her unsuccessful attempts to reach out to Strika when news of his involvement in a stealing controversy surfaced on social media, and her subsequent shock upon hearing about his seven-year prison sentence.

"I'm sure by now you've heard the news about Emmanuel Quaye, who plays Strika in Beast of No Nation, and his prison sentence. Last week, I did a video, you know, hoping to reach out to him to see how best I can support him. That offer still stands, and hopefully, after the time that he spends in prison, we'll see how best we can support him," Abebrese stated. She expressed her hope for the actor's safe return and future success, emphasizing that she did not want this chapter to define the end of his life story.

The incident that led to Strika's imprisonment occurred on August 29, 2026, when he was reportedly caught stealing metal railings at the Kwashieman footbridge in Accra. A viral video showed him holding the railings, with claims that he intended to sell them as scrap. Following the video's circulation, an audio note from the actor confirmed his seven-year prison sentence.
