Accra: Leader of the Alabaster International Ministry, Prophet Kofi Oduro, has criticised the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) over its approach to taxation, particularly targeting regular civilian employees while overlooking other income streams.
According to Ghana Web, in a video shared on X on September 15, 2026, Prophet Oduro argued that the GRA must begin 'thinking outside the box' on how to effectively tax individuals operating online businesses. He accused the authority of lacking vision and failing to adapt to modern economic realities.
Prophet Oduro further noted that artisans often earn more than office workers, yet remain untaxed, while government employees with modest salaries face heavy taxation. "Masons, carpenters, hairdressers don't pay tax. I'm even tackling the people who take the big money. A carpenter takes GHS40,000 for roofing a four-bedroom house. And then the taxman is sitting in his office and chasing the government worker whose salary is five thousand. You don't have the vision," he stated.
He emphasized the need for the GRA to consider new strategies for taxing online businesses, suggesting that significant revenue could be generated from this sector. "Think outside the box about how to tax people who are doing online business. That's where the money is. If our tax people can think like this, something is wrong. People go to China to import goods, but such a person is not being taxed because the person trades online, yet the petty traders are being taxed," Prophet Oduro remarked.
