Accra: Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is reportedly set to exclude some players who featured for the national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup from the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
According to Ghana Web, the Portuguese coach has made this decision as part of efforts to revamp the squad for better performances and results. Some omissions are expected to surprise members of the public and football fans when the squad list is released, as the decision has already been made.
Ghanaian journalist Rahman Osman, associated with the English media outlet The Sun, reported on his X page, "Carlos Queiroz is set to make some big changes to the Black Stars squad for the upcoming international break. Some of the players who were part of Ghana's World Cup squad will be left out of the call-up."
Meanwhile, Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has confirmed that the Black Stars squad for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers will be announced during the week of September 21-25, 2026. According to him, head coach Carlos Queiroz has already submitted the final squad list to the GFA for further assessment before the official announcement.
He emphasised that the Black Stars Management Committee and the GFA Executive Council will review the list for ratification and complete all necessary processes before the announcement.
