Denkyira akwaboso: A major operation by the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) in Denkyira Akwaboso and parts of the Upper Denkyira East and West districts has led to the seizure of several excavators and other mining equipment. The task force intensified its crackdown on illegal mining activities in the area, targeting sites believed to be involved in unlawful mining operations.
According to Ghana Web, several excavators were seized during the operation and transported away from the mining sites. Other equipment found at the sites was also set ablaze as the operation continued. The exercise forms part of efforts by the authorities to clamp down on illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, which continues to raise concerns over the destruction of farmlands and water bodies.
Footage from the operation captures the task force moving in on mining sites, with excavators being taken away and other equipment destroyed. A major NAIMOS operation in Denkyira Akwaboso and parts of Upper Denkyira East and West saw several excavators seized and transported away. Other mining equipment was also burnt as the task force intensified the crackdown on illegal mining activities in the area.
