Ghana: Ghana international Inaki Williams has announced his retirement from international football, expressing pride and peace of mind over his contributions to the Black Stars during his four-year international career. The Athletic Bilbao captain's decision brings an emotional closure to his journey representing Ghana at the senior level.
According to Ghana Web, Williams switched his international allegiance from Spain to Ghana in 2022, deciding to honor the country of his parents. Over his international career, he made 28 appearances and scored twice for the Black Stars. Williams made his debut for Ghana in June 2022 and was quickly included in the squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
In addition to the World Cup, Williams participated in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in C´te d'Ivoire and was also part of the Black Stars' squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Reflecting on his time with the national team, Williams expressed no regrets about his commitment to Ghana, stating, "I feel the time has come to bring my journey with the Ghana national team to an end. I leave happy, proud and with the peace of mind of knowing that I gave everything every time I wore this shirt," he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Williams' decision marks the end of a chapter that saw him reconnect with his Ghanaian roots and proudly represent the Black Stars on the international stage. Despite stepping away from international football, the 32-year-old remains proud of his contributions and the opportunity to wear the Ghana shirt.
