Ghanaian Singer Gyakie Opens Up About Keeping Her Father’s Identity Secret During Early Career

Accra: Ghanaian singer Gyakie has revealed that she intentionally kept her relationship with legendary highlife musician Nana Acheampong away from the public at the start of her music career because she wanted to build her own name and earn success through hard work.

According to Ghana Web, the Forever hitmaker explained on The Group Chat hosted by Nana Aba Anamoah that when she began her music journey in 2019, she deliberately avoided mentioning her father's identity to prevent assumptions that her achievements were a result of his influence. Gyakie stated that she took her father's name and everything about him out of the picture to ensure that people would recognize her efforts independently.

Gyakie shared that it was only after releasing her debut EP, which featured artwork of her and her father in a recording studio, that many people started to make the connection. The project included the track Forever, and the artwork sparked conversations about her relationship with Nana Acheampong. She anticipated the challenges of being introduced as the daughter of a music legend and wanted to navigate the industry on her own terms.

She emphasized that this decision was one of the best she has ever made, as it allowed her accomplishments to be recognized as a result of her own efforts rather than her family background. Gyakie expressed her desire for people to acknowledge her hard work without attributing it solely to her father's influence.
