Chirano: The Chirano Sefwiman Foundation Scholarship Scheme recently held its second graduation ceremony, celebrating 21 tertiary students who successfully completed their education through the scheme. Additionally, 24 new students received full scholarships from the Foundation, marking a significant expansion in the organization's educational support efforts.
According to Ghana News Agency, both the graduating students and new scholarship recipients were selected from 20 communities within the company's operational area. Mr. Stephen Asante Yamoah, General Manager of Asante Gold Chirano, emphasized during the ceremony that while the company extracts valuable resources from the earth, it acknowledges that the true wealth of any society lies in the potential of its people. This belief underpins the company's substantial investment in educational initiatives.
Mr. Yamoah highlighted that the scholarships represent the company's commitment to solving problems, building careers, and fostering community development. Beyond the scholarships, the company and the Sefwiman Foundation have been involved in various educational initiatives, including constructing and rehabilitating classrooms, providing kindergarten facilities, supporting literacy programs, and donating educational materials.
The General Manager proudly announced that the investments were bearing fruit, as evidenced by the 21 graduates who completed their tertiary education in diverse fields. He encouraged the graduates to utilize their knowledge to empower others, urging them to maintain integrity, adaptability, sound judgment, and teamwork in their professional lives.
Additionally, Mr. Yamoah advised the graduates to continue acquiring knowledge and skills, emphasizing that while a degree may open doors, it is competence, character, and consistent performance that will determine their future success. He also called on the 24 new scholarship recipients to uphold the expectations of their families and communities.
Mr. Kwaku Sarfo Duah, Board Chairman of the Chirano Sefwiman Foundation, explained that education is a principal area of investment for the Foundation due to its generational benefits. He praised the scholarship committee and Board of Trustees for their diligence and fairness in the selection process. Since the Foundation's inception, 54 graduates have emerged, marking a significant achievement.
Miss Lois Karikari, an Electrical and Electronic Engineering student at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, expressed gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries. She highlighted that the scholarship relieved them of financial burdens, allowing them to focus more on their studies.
