Accra: Ghanaian musician Slim Buster has recounted how the success of his hit song, Masan Aba, helped him strike a friendship with the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba. Speaking in an interview with George Quaye on Joy Prime on September 9, 2026, Slim Buster said he was surrounded by some of Ghana's biggest music stars when he was preparing to release the song.
According to Ghana Web, Slim Buster noted that prominent figures like Daddy Lumba, Kojo Antwi, Amakye Dede, and Rex Omar were all making waves at the time, compelling him to think differently about how to stand out. Slim Buster explained that he studied these artistes and noticed that their music videos focused mainly on the songs, with little or no dancing and choreography.
Determined to do something different, Slim Buster decided to make the visuals for Masan Aba more dramatic. He initially faced challenges after being told that some of his ideas, such as using fire in the video, could not be executed. However, he eventually met someone willing to try his ideas, and the result exceeded his expectations.
The video for Masan Aba became so popular that Daddy Lumba visited Slim Buster's office to find out who had shot it. Slim Buster introduced the videographer to Daddy Lumba, who expressed interest in working with some of Slim Buster's dancers. This collaboration marked the beginning of their friendship, forged through the success of Masan Aba.
