Accra: The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the performance statistics for candidates in the core subjects of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Council's statement, issued on Friday night, detailed the results of 315,094 candidates, marking 62.40 percent, who achieved grades A1-C6 in English Language. Meanwhile, 49,771 candidates, or 9.86 percent, obtained a D7 grade. Additionally, 37,080 candidates, representing 7.34 percent, received an E8, and 55,940 candidates, or 11.08 percent, were graded F9.
In Core Mathematics, 306,234 candidates, equivalent to 60.75 percent, attained grades A1-C6. The data showed that 54,420 candidates, or 10.80 percent, received a D7, while 54,121 candidates, representing 10.74 percent, got an E8. Furthermore, 74,692 candidates, equating to 14.82 percent, were graded F9.
The Integrated Science results showed 309,605 candidates, or 62.08 percent, achieved grades A1-C6, while 54,649 candidates, representing 10.96 percent, received a D7. Additionally, 46,526 candidates, or 9.33 percent, obtained an E8, and 76,136 candidates, making up 15.27 percent, received an F9.
In Social Studies, 393,918 candidates, or 78.04 percent, achieved grades A1-C6. The statistics revealed that 35,435 candidates, or 7.02 percent, received a D7, 25,253 candidates, equivalent to 5.00 percent, obtained an E8, and 39,416 candidates, making up 7.81 percent, were graded F9.
The Council's analysis over a four-year period revealed varying trends in candidate performance from 2023 to 2026. English Language results showed a decline from 73.11 percent in 2023 to 62.30 percent in 2026 for grades A1-C6. Core Mathematics saw fluctuations, with a rise from 62.23 percent in 2023 to 66.86 percent in 2024, a dip to 48.73 percent in 2025, and a rise to 60.75 percent in 2026.
The performance in Integrated Science showed percentages of 66.82 in 2023, 58.77 in 2024, 57.74 in 2025, and 62.08 in 2026 for grades A1-C6. Social Studies results indicated a decline from 76.76 percent in 2023 to 55.82 percent in 2025, followed by a significant rise to 78.04 percent in 2026.
The analysis highlighted fluctuations in candidates' performance in Core Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Social Studies, with a steady decline in English Language over the four years.
