Accra: Founder and leader of Glorious Wave Church International, Prophet Emmanuel Badu Kobi, has urged Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi to cease their ongoing public dispute and withdraw the associated court case for the sake of national peace.
According to Ghana Web, during a recent church service, Prophet Badu Kobi expressed his concern over the conflict involving the two political figures, whom he refers to as his 'sons'. He emphasized that he felt divinely instructed to intervene and plead for reconciliation between Afenyo-Markin and Gyamfi. Badu Kobi indicated his willingness to mediate personally but insisted that divine guidance necessitated a public appeal for resolution.
The cleric highlighted the negative impact of the dispute on Ghana's reputation and appealed to the leaders to reconcile for the country's benefit. He stressed the importance of putting Ghana above personal grievances and called for an end to the hostilities between the two men. Badu Kobi specifically urged Afenyo-Markin to withdraw his legal action against Gyamfi, warning that failure to do so would be seen as a disregard for divine instructions.
The context of Badu Kobi's appeal is a contentious political and legal standoff. Afenyo-Markin, a Member of Parliament for Effutu and Minority Leader, has raised concerns about GoldBod's financial dealings, particularly citing significant losses allegedly linked to the Bank of Ghana's Domestic Gold Purchase Programme. In retaliation, Gyamfi, who formerly held a communications role within the National Democratic Congress and now leads GoldBod, accused Afenyo-Markin of being an 'extortionist'.
The accusation led Afenyo-Markin to file a defamation lawsuit against Gyamfi and related media outlets, seeking damages as well as a retraction and public apology. Prophet Badu Kobi's intervention comes at a critical time, potentially offering a path to de-escalate the situation for the betterment of national unity and progress.
