Accra: Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has launched a scathing critique against President John Dramani Mahama's administration, accusing it of using the 24-hour market initiative as a facade to conceal its inability to implement the '1-3-3' policy promised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to Ghana Web, the parliamentarian has called for the government to acknowledge its shortcomings and issue an apology to the Ghanaian youth who placed their faith in the NDC's employment pledges during the campaign. Nyarko expressed his discontent through a post on his official Facebook page, stating, "The 24 hour market concept which's being implemented by President Mahama and his NDC Government is an attempt to cover up their inability to implement their formula 1-3-3 policy."
Nyarko went further to demand that the government take responsibility for what he perceives as a broken promise. "The Government should accept that they have failed on its Manifesto promise and apologize to the Ghanaian youth who bought into this idea and voted massively for the NDC," he asserted.
The Akim Swedru MP also raised concerns about how the 24-hour market initiative would effectively tackle unemployment among university graduates. He challenged critics to ponder the plight of an unemployed graduate and question the relevance of the 24-hour market to such individuals. "Before you come here to either insult or attack first ask yourself as an unemployed university graduate where in the 24 hour market will you fit or will be employed to make an ends meet," he wrote.
The Mahama administration has been promoting the 24-hour economy initiative as a means to boost economic activity, create jobs, and enhance productivity by encouraging businesses and selected sectors to operate beyond the traditional working hours.
