Garu: The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has called upon young people to join forces with government institutions, traditional authorities, civil society organizations, and private businesses to tackle the challenges faced by their communities.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Samuel Akolgo, Garu District Director of the NCCE, emphasized that such collaborations would empower young individuals to play a significant role in community development, fostering peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable environments. He made this appeal during an engagement with community members and artisans in the district, part of the activities marking the 2026 International Youth Day under the theme: 'Youth Advancing Multilateral Cooperation Through Technology and Partnerships.'
Mr. Akolgo highlighted International Youth Day as an opportunity to acknowledge the vital contributions of young people to society and to address issues that affect them. He stressed the importance of creating avenues for youth participation and development, urging them to work alongside government bodies and other stakeholders to identify and solve community challenges.
He also encouraged the responsible use of technology to promote peace and development, urging youth to build partnerships across communities to foster tolerance, responsible citizenship, and mutual understanding among diverse groups. Mr. Akolgo advised young people to engage actively in decision-making processes and contribute their ideas to national and global conversations.
Digital platforms, according to Mr. Akolgo, can be utilized to disseminate positive messages and combat misinformation, hate speech, and other harmful content that may incite conflict. Mr. Ali Nashiru, Civic Field Officer of the NCCE, added that technology offers young people opportunities to acquire new skills, promote businesses, access information, apply for opportunities, and connect with others across Ghana and beyond.
Mr. Nashiru urged the youth to engage actively in civic life, develop valuable skills, and use technology responsibly to aid national development. He underlined the crucial role young people play in building peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable communities.
Mr. Akolgo further cautioned against the spread of misinformation, cyberbullying, insults, and hate speech, advocating for information verification before sharing it online. He concluded that responsible technology use and meaningful partnerships among youth and stakeholders are essential in addressing community challenges and accelerating development.
