Dome-kwabenya: Hundreds of residents from Dome-Kwabenya, Comet, Berekuso, Agyementi, and Kitase have staged a peaceful demonstration to demand the immediate rehabilitation and completion of the Dome-Kwabenya-Berekuso-Kitase road. In a video sited by GhanaWeb on August 17, 2026, the protesters marched from Kitase towards Kwabenya to draw attention to the deteriorating condition of the road, which they say has remained largely neglected for more than two decades.
According to Ghana Web, the residents expressed that the poor state of the road has created serious difficulties for motorists, commuters, students, and businesses in the affected communities. One demonstrator emphasized, "This is a peaceful demonstration. Our road needs to be fixed. For over 20 years, this road has not been fixed."
Residents highlighted their support for successive governments through elections and are now demanding tangible action on the road. "We voted massively for the government. We voted massively and we have given this government two MPs. We need this road to be fixed now," a protester stated.
Another resident, Joe Floss, pointed out the increasing difficulty and safety concerns surrounding daily commuting due to the road's condition. He urged, "We are asking the government to fix our community road from Parbenyal to Kitase. It's been a long time. Drivers on the road are complaining. Citizens on the road are complaining."
The demonstrators expressed frustration over the intermittent nature of work on the road, noting that projects have repeatedly been started and abandoned. One protester remarked on the lack of progress despite the road's significance as a link between Accra and Eastern Region communities, saying, "It's been so long. For the last 16 years, they start and they stop."
Protesters believe that completing the road would significantly boost economic activity in the area by improving access to schools, workplaces, and other facilities. "If they manage to fix this road, there are people who live here and go into town for school. The economic activity here will increase. People will build their homes here, schools will record high enrolment, among other things," another resident explained.
