Accra: The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has completed the initial phase of repair works on the Ashaiman section of the 161kV Tema-Achimota transmission line. GRIDCo reported that a team of engineers carried out the preliminary works on Sunday, August 16, 2026, leading to the restoration of power supply to affected customers.
According to Ghana Web, GRIDCo's Corporate Communications Section issued a statement indicating that the final phase of the project, which involves replacing the affected transmission tower, is scheduled for Sunday, August 23, 2026. The tower sustained damage due to a welding explosion in July 2026.
GRIDCo mentioned in the statement that it will work with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to provide advance notice to customers and communities potentially impacted by the planned works. This notice will include details on any temporary power supply interruptions related to the tower replacement exercise.
The company noted that replacing the tower is part of broader efforts to restore the full integrity, reliability, and resilience of the transmission line. GRIDCo also expressed gratitude to the public for their patience, understanding, and cooperation as the company continues work toward the successful completion of the project.
