Kofi Adams Urges Black Queens to End Women’s World Cup Drought

Accra: The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has charged the Black Queens to secure qualification for the 2027 Women's World Cup, following Ghana's absence from the tournament for nearly two decades. According to Ghana Web, the team has the quality needed to break the jinx, and Adams urged them to remain focused and work diligently to achieve the target. 'For a very long time, the Black Queens have not made it to the world stage. Though I see the Queens as one of our most stable and strong teams, we have not been able to qualify for the World Cup for a very long time. We believe that now is the time to break that, and so they should put themselves together,' he said in an interview with Joy Sports. The minister emphasized that his office has addressed recent concerns raised by the team regarding welfare and other pertinent issues ahead of the tournament. 'I have read a couple of comments and statements from them in relation to some welfare matters. I believe that, as a ministry, we have fully d ischarged our responsibilities. If there is anything outstanding, it has to do with sponsorship arrangements that are yet to be concluded. But the ministry has done everything we are supposed to do for them, and I believe any outstanding issues will be resolved,' he added. The Black Queens defeated Côte d'Ivoire 2-1 to advance to the intercontinental playoffs, scheduled for November and December 2026, which will determine their fate.
