Telecel Group Invests $50,000 to Enhance Digital and Soft Skills in Ghanaian Schools

Accra: Telecel Group's recent investment of US$50,000 is playing a pivotal role in enhancing access to digital and soft skills development for junior high school students across Ghana. According to Ghana Web, the initiative has already impacted more than 5,000 young learners since the Skills for School programme launched in 2020, in partnership with King's Trust International and Junior Achievement Ghana.

The programme targets 11 to 17-year-olds across 31 schools in the Greater Accra Region, focusing on students who may face learning disengagement or challenges in confidence, communication, and self-management. With Telecel Group's support, the programme now includes a robust digital learning component, significantly expanding its reach and impact.

The investment has facilitated the establishment of computer laboratories in seven schools within the Accra Metropolitan, Krowor, and Kpone Katamanso municipalities, providing essential technology and infrastructure. It has also enabled the introduction of a digital safety module, now available to students across all participating schools.

During a recent visit, Telecel Ghana executives engaged with students to observe firsthand how the programme is transforming their lives. Komla Buami, External Affairs Director of Telecel Ghana, emphasized the importance of equipping young people with the skills necessary to thrive in a digital world. He highlighted that the investment aims to foster confidence, problem-solving abilities, and collaboration among students, equipping them with in-demand workplace skills.

Lorretta Domfeh Owusu, Programme Manager at Junior Achievement Ghana, noted that the partnership with Telecel Group has significantly enhanced the programme, particularly for students facing challenges with confidence, communication, and academic engagement. The provision of computers and internet access has been instrumental in helping students build digital skills and safely navigate online spaces.

Andre Harriman, Head of Delivery for Africa at King's Trust International, underscored the importance of cross-sector partnerships in equipping young people with necessary skills and tools. He expressed delight at Telecel Group's support, which has introduced a new digital dimension to the Skills for School programme, preparing students with practical digital skills and online safety awareness for their educational and future career endeavors.
