Accra: A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, Kingsley Basintale, has criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he describes as attempts to defend alleged criminal activities involving members of the party.
According to Ghana Web, Basintale reacted to the NPP's Democracy Under Attack demonstration by stating it was unfortunate for leaders of an opposition party to defend actions he believes should be left to the appropriate legal processes. He expressed concern over leaders defending crime, emphasizing the importance of allowing the law to take its course without political interference.
Basintale also rejected claims that democratic freedoms should be used as a shield against accountability, arguing that democracy does not permit individuals to escape responsibility for alleged wrongdoing. He stated that democracy should not be misconstrued as a means to evade consequences for financial misconduct or threats against the President.
The NDC communicator urged the NPP leadership to focus on educating its members about lawful conduct rather than defending individuals facing allegations. He emphasized that ignorance of the law is not an excuse and that the party should prioritize teaching its members to be law-abiding citizens.
Basintale concluded by emphasizing that criminal acts should not have a place in Ghana's society, reinforcing his stance against crime. His comments come amid heightened political exchanges following the NPP's demonstration over concerns about what the party describes as selective justice and alleged political persecution of its members.
