Accra: Ghana-based Nigerian comedian Parrot Mouth has voiced his concerns over Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, primarily questioning the legitimacy of Tinubu's election and his international statements. The comedian, known for his outspoken views, addressed these issues during an interview with Headless Youtuber, which aired on August 4, 2026.
According to Ghana Web, Parrot Mouth emphasized that his disagreement lies not with the Nigerian populace but specifically with President Tinubu. He expressed skepticism about the election process, suggesting that many Nigerians, including himself, did not perceive Tinubu's victory as a result of their votes. "We did not vote for Tinubu, even Tinubu himself knows we didn't vote for him. We just woke up and realised he had won the election. Tinubu became President when men slept," he stated.
Parrot Mouth's concerns intensified following President Tinubu's participation in the swearing-in ceremony of Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2025. During the ceremony, Tinubu pledged support to Ghana in battling corruption, poverty, and unemployment. The comedian questioned the appropriateness of such promises, given Nigeria's ongoing struggles with these same issues. "He stood at the swearing-in ceremony of Mahama and said he would help Ghana fight corruption and poverty, when that is the same issue facing his own country," he remarked.
The comedian further argued that had President Tinubu consulted Nigerians about the content of his speech in Ghana, he would have been advised to alter it. "If he had told us he was coming to give such a speech, we would have told him to change it. How can you come and say that you will help Ghana fight corruption and help the youth get jobs when we ourselves don't have work," Parrot Mouth noted, highlighting the disconnect between Tinubu's statements abroad and the situation at home.
