Accra: The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has announced that the party will no longer seek the removal of Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana. This decision follows the recent departures of two key deputies from the Commission.
According to Ghana Web, Asiedu Nketiah articulated that the exits of Dr. Bossman Eric Asare and Samuel Tettey are satisfactory for the NDC. He emphasized that these changes are sufficient for the party, which will now refrain from pursuing further action against Jean Mensa.
In a statement shared on social media, Asiedu Nketiah remarked, "We (NDC) will no longer pursue the removal of EC Chairperson. Resignation and retirement of 2 deputies enough reset." The NDC's earlier position was that Jean Mensa should begin to feel isolated in her role after the departure of her deputies.
Dr. Bossman Asare, the EC's Deputy Chairperson in charge of Corporate Affairs, resigned with effect from July 31, 2026, while Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, retired. Asiedu Nketiah commented that if Jean Mensa chooses to remain in her role, she should be prepared to face solitude.
During an interview on Ambassador TV, Asiedu Nketiah noted that, although the court had directed the Electoral Commission to continue its operations, the NDC is vigilantly observing the situation. He stated, "If she feels she can stay there, fine, she should continue to be there. Bossman Asare has resigned and Tettey has gone on pension."
Asiedu Nketiah further communicated a direct message to Jean Mensa, indicating that she should prepare for a potentially lonely tenure following the departures of her deputies. The NDC leader reassured that the party would not resort to aggressive measures but would continue to monitor the Commission's actions closely.
