Logro±o: The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Spain Branch Executive Election, conducted on July 25, 2026, has encountered a significant legitimacy challenge. This follows the decision by chairmen from seven chapters to boycott the elections and request an immediate annulment of the results by the party's National Headquarters in Accra.
According to Ghana Web, the chapter leaders argue that the election process was marked by numerous irregularities, manipulation of the voter register, and non-compliance with the party's established electoral guidelines. These factors, they claim, render the election results void and lacking in democratic credibility.
In their formal petition to the NPP Election Committee and the National Secretariat, the leaders highlighted several reasons for their boycott. They reported widespread procedural irregularities, manipulation of rules, a flawed voter register, unfair treatment of candidates, exclusion of chapter leadership from important decisions, perceived bias favoring certain factions, and constitutional breaches undermining fairness and accountability.
The chapter leaders assert that the electoral process does not align with the democratic principles the party advocates. They stated, "We firmly believe that the current electoral arrangements do not reflect the democratic values, unity, integrity, and grassroots participation upon which the New Patriotic Party was founded."
To address the situation and restore order within the branch, the leaders have presented five demands to the NPP National Headquarters. These include nullifying the election results, conducting an independent review of the process, auditing the voter register, engaging with chapter leaders in consultations, and establishing clear guidelines for new elections.
The leaders have resolved not to recognize any executive body formed from the disputed elections unless their grievances are addressed. The joint petition was signed by chairmen from some of the NPP's most influential chapters in Spain, including Samuel Amoah of Ejea de los Caballeros, Shadrach Nana Owusu of Barcelona, Francis Amankona of Tarragona, Andrew Kwaku Ankamah of Martorell St. Andreu, Ernest Kwabena Aning of Madrid, Kyeremeh Alexander of Girona, and Christina Nana Yaa Acheampong of Alcal¡ de Henares.
They emphasized their commitment to upholding the integrity of the NPP and ensuring that diaspora elections adhere to high standards of transparency and fairness.
