Bono east: The Bono East Regional Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested six suspects during a targeted anti-narcotics operation at Techiman Nkwaeso in the Techiman Municipality as part of efforts to curb the growing abuse and trafficking of illicit drugs in the region.
According to Ghana Web, the Bono East Regional Operations Officer of the Narcotics Control Commission, ANCO Andrews Ansah Boakye, stated that the operation, dubbed 'Chase Them Out,' was sanctioned by the Bono East Regional Commander, SNCO Portia Abuwie Demuyakor, following intelligence gathered over the past week on suspected drug-related activities at Techiman Nkwaeso.
Officers conducted raids on a suspected drug den and carried out roadside checks on motorcyclists, tricycle riders, and vehicles transporting charcoal. These actions resulted in the arrest of six suspects: Muhis Tahiru, 24; Abdul Basit Ibrahim, 28; Obeng Emmanuel, 24; Kadali Abdullaih, 73; Kwasi Oppong, 28; and Owusu Rita, 38.
The operation also led to the seizure of a variety of items including a quarter of a polythene bag of suspected cannabis, one-and-a-half blister packs of 250-milligram tramadol tablets, two rolls of suspected cannabis, two pairs of scissors, one cannabis grinder, four packs of rolling papers, five lighters, 10 mobile phones, three motor vehicles, one bicycle, and one tricycle.
The Commission remains committed to protecting communities from the harmful effects of illicit drugs through sustained intelligence-led operations. ANCO Andrews Ansah Boakye emphasized that the Commission's mandate extends beyond arrests, highlighting that education, counselling, and rehabilitation are key components of its strategy to combat drug abuse.
