Tamale: The Northern Regional Police Command has apprehended two individuals suspected of drug dealing and confiscated 170 parcels of alleged Indian hemp during an intelligence-led operation at Katariga in Tamale.
According to Ghana Web, the operation was executed by officers from the Regional Special Operations Team, known as Red Maria, led by Chief Inspector Abu Issahaku, on July 27, 2026, around 5:30 pm. The police operation resulted in the arrest of 32-year-old Godwin Yamegi, who was reportedly found with two parcels of dried leaves thought to be Indian hemp. During questioning, Yamegi named 33-year-old Seth Amekuse as his supplier.
Following this information, officers searched Amekuse's residence at Katariga and arrested him. The search revealed an additional 168 parcels of the suspected narcotic, totaling 170 parcels seized. Both suspects remain in custody, assisting with investigations, while the seized items have been transferred to the Regional Drugs Law Enforcement Unit for further action.
The Regional Police Command emphasized that the operation reflects their dedication to tackling illicit drug trafficking and associated criminal activities in the region. Investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals connected to the suspected supply chain as efforts persist to dismantle the network. The two suspects are anticipated to appear in court for prosecution.
