Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has urged graduate students from the University of Ghana to focus on addressing societal challenges to enhance livelihoods. He emphasized that the true measure of their success lies not only in their academic credentials but also in their ability to improve communities and institutions.
According to Ghana Web, during a congregation ceremony held at the UG Great Hall, President Mahama advised the graduates to be impactful wherever they find themselves. He shared that societal judgment would be based on the application of their knowledge to solve problems, strengthen institutions, and improve community life.
President Mahama disclosed that the committee tasked with reviewing the government's plan to reinstate the University of Ghana's management of the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) has completed its assessment. The report on the facility's future has been submitted, and he affirmed the government's commitment to restoring the university's stewardship of the medical center.
Highlighting educational access, President Mahama stated that financial constraints should not hinder anyone from pursuing tertiary education. Through the No Fee Stress initiative, the government aims to support numerous first-year students in starting their university education, advocating that education should be based on knowledge and potential rather than financial capacity.
The congregation ceremony saw the awarding of various academic degrees, including Master's, Master of Philosophy (MPhil), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. Among the notable graduates was Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, who received a PhD in Museum and Heritage Studies.
