Accra: An Accra High Court, under the leadership of His Lordship Justice Achibonga, has dismissed an application from the Attorney-General intended to overturn a court order allowing Hanan Abdul-Wahab, the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company Limited, to travel abroad.
According to Ghana Web, Deputy Attorney-General Dr. Srem Sai presented the application to the court on July 16, 2026, advocating for the State's request. During the proceedings, Justice Achibonga queried the duration of the travel order, to which Dr. Sai responded that it had expired on July 12. The judge noted that since the order had expired, there was no active order to revoke, advising the deputy Attorney-General to act accordingly.
Subsequently, Dr. Srem Sai requested permission to withdraw the application, leading Justice Achibonga to strike it out. Godfred Yeboah Dame, representing Hanan Abdul-Wahab, reiterated that there was no existing order to revoke, as it had already lapsed following Abdul-Wahab's detention by the Republic. He expressed concerns over the seizure of Abdul-Wahab's funds and passport by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after his arrest.
Justice Achibonga addressed the confiscation of Abdul-Wahab's passport by EOCO, emphasizing that his original order required the passport to be submitted to the Court's Registry after Abdul-Wahab's trip to London. The judge indicated readiness to issue necessary orders if any party was found to have willfully disobeyed his directives.
