Accra: Media personality Baaba Cann has criticized the calls for sympathy towards Ghanaian social media personality Abu Trica following his arrest, emphasizing that having children should not justify public or government intervention. Speaking during a discussion with broadcaster Ola Michael on Neat FM on July 12, 2026, Baaba Cann asserted that individuals must be accountable for their actions and face the consequences if found guilty of any wrongdoing.
According to Ghana Web, Baaba Cann refuted the appeals made by Abu Trica’s baby mama for government intervention on the grounds of his parental status. She questioned the validity of using children as an excuse for fraudulent activities, pointing out that many people have children but still adhere to the law. “Don’t I also have children? Can’t I also decide to defraud people because I want to take care of my children?” she challenged.
Baaba Cann also defended media personality Captain Smart concerning his interview with Abu Trica, dismissing claims that the interview was conducted under duress. She clarified that Abu Trica willingly participated in the interview and had the option to decline. “Captain Smart’s interview he did with him, did he put a gun to his head? No presenter will force you to leave your house with police officers to grant an interview,” she explained.
She further argued that Abu Trica had the opportunity to refrain from answering questions if he believed his responses might have legal implications. Baaba Cann highlighted that Abu Trica admitted to receiving part of the fraud money during the interview. “When you’re asked a question and you don’t want to answer, just don’t answer. You decided to answer all the questions that were asked and you admitted that you received part of the fraud money,” she noted.
Baaba Cann underscored that any involvement in fraudulent activities, regardless of the amount, constitutes a serious offense. “It’s still fraud even if you received just one dollar, so you can’t say that the money you received was little. When someone steals, the person needs to be punished,” she concluded.
